WE BELIEVE

that science empowers us as individuals and as a society by developing greater understanding of the natural world. It enriches our lives by providing a complementary perspective to the Arts. On an increasingly crowded planet, our future wellbeing depends upon continuing scientific discovery and technological innovation and uptake.

WE BELIEVE

that in order to use science well the community must be engaged in discussion about what science reveals, how this knowledge can be applied and how it should be applied. Creating a scientifically literate culture involves piquing interest and inspiring curiosity about the natural world, promoting understanding of science and technology, provoking action to apply this understanding in the public interest and developing leadership for future discovery and innovation. Such engagement with science is beneficial and inspiring for people of all ages and all cultures.

WE BELIEVE

in particular that our children and youth will benefit from an understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics whatever their intended life course. Our children should be provided with a robust education in these areas, introduced to the many rewarding opportunities they provide and encouraged to pursue a career within them. Those who choose to do so should have the opportunity and support required to have a fulfilling career right here in British Columbia.

WE BELIEVE

that the goal of a scientifically informed and empowered province deserves our active support and requires our strategic and committed effort. Together we can create a better future in which we more fully appreciate the gifts and wonders of the natural world and prepare future generations to create and employ scientific knowledge and technical innovation to improve the quality of their lives and the economic future of our province.

WE BELIEVE

that in order for the province to develop, retain and attract people with the knowledge and skills that will enable us to thrive in the future, our province must have a comprehensive science and technology strategy.
